East Coast Futsal Club is to officially link up with Hull University next season.
This is excellent news for the club and something manager Steve Brennan, has been looking to do since East Coast formed in 2009.
John Prince the ‘Get into Football Officer’ has been pivotal in this and we thank him and also Steve Curtis, Sports Development Officer for the University of Hull for putting Futsal into the universities plans.
The club will look to form a partnership with players & use the universities facilities where possible, and also look at getting Hull Uni into the BUCS Futsal Championships 2011/12.
East Coast Futsal will travel to Manchester on the 2nd October to play newly promoted Crewsadors in the first FA Futsal National league game of the 2011/12 Futsal Season.
Crewsadors beat Team Northumbria 6 v 5 in the playoff game after being 1 v 5 down at one point!
East Coast then take on Tranmere Victoria on the 16th October in the teams first home game. This promises to be an enthralling encounter after the 10 v 7 scoreline in the league las season and then unbelieveable 1 v 1 draw in the FA Futsal Cup.
East Coast’s young team were narrowlly denied a place in the final shootout v Middlesbrough for a place in FA Cup elite stage.
The team drew 2v2 against Team Northumbria, Hunter & Davis then scorers and then drew with Tranmere Victoria 1 v 1 to lose out on goals scored to Northumbria. Earlier Northumbria had drawn 2 v 2 against Tranmere.
Coast could have won the Tranmere game in the last 2 minutes, player coach Steve Brennan hit a 30 yrd lob that came back off the bar and Josh Christlow hit wide in the dying seconds when it looked a certain goal. Nick Van Heerden saved twice also in a pulsating game. Christlow hit the goal for Coast.
In the final, Northumbria upset Middlesbrough 2 v 1 despite playing with 4 men for 2 minutes and then Boro missed a 10m penalty late on but the Newcastle based team took the honours and automatic qualification into the FA Cup Elite rounds in Birmingham 10th July.
East Coast Futsal Club are going through final preparations ahead of the FA Cup, at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Sheffield on Saturday.
It is the first time the Club has been involved in the FA Cup and only 2 players in the squad have FA Cup experience.
The team are in arguably the hardest group with seasoned Futsal team Tranmere & BUCS finalists Team Northumbria.
