East Coast gain University Link

East Coast Futsal Club is to officially link up with Hull University next season.

This is excellent news for the club and something manager Steve Brennan, has been looking to do since East Coast formed in 2009.

John Prince the ‘Get into Football Officer’ has been pivotal in this and we thank him and also Steve Curtis, Sports Development Officer for the University of Hull for putting Futsal into the universities plans.

The club will look to form a partnership with players & use the universities facilities where possible, and also look at getting Hull Uni into the BUCS Futsal Championships 2011/12.

Club ready for Fa Cup

East Coast Futsal Club are going through final preparations ahead of the FA Cup, at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Sheffield on Saturday.

It is the first time the Club has been involved in the FA Cup and only 2 players in the squad have FA Cup experience.

The team are in arguably the hardest group with seasoned Futsal team Tranmere & BUCS finalists Team Northumbria.

With Middlesbrough most likely opponents in the stage final it is sure to be an exciting day of Futsal action for all involved.

East Coast Futsal head to Dublin

As most people will be tucked up in bed tomorrow morning East Coast Futsal will be heading off to Dublin to play 3 games and watch 2 international Futsal matches.

The squad of Van Heerden, Frizzell, Link, Foster, Christlow, Hunter & coach Brennan fly into Dublin ahead of 3 scheduled games, 2 sunday and 1 Monday.

East Coast kick off in Tallaght at 1pm v Blue Magic Futsal follwed by 3pm v Lifford Futsal Club.  Blue Magic reached the FAI Futsal cup final and were beaten by Uefa Cup entrants Sporting Fingal 4 v 2.  With Goalkeeper Rafal Wirkus, player of the tournament it should prove a real test for the young Coast Team.

The team then travel to the National Basketball Arena to watch Norway v Andorra for a title decider follwed by hosts Ireland v Isreal in the Euro Futsal qualifiers.

On Monday East Coast play Dublin Santos Futsal.  Santos lost out 4 v 1 winners to Shamrock Rovers in the Emerald Futsal league back in December.  The game kicks off at 8pm, Collinson Park Community College, Clondalkin.

Liverpool 6 v 4 East Coast Futsal

East Coast missed out on their first points of the season in a close game at Greenbank Academy.

If it wasn’t for a lackluster first 5 minutes the young East Coast team would have probably got something out of the game but conceding 3 goals so early on just made the game an uphill battle.

East Coast gave national league debut’s to 3 players, Christlow, Gunn & Robinson, and all 3 impressed.

It was Robinson who scored East Coasts first half goal after 12 minutes, a fine solo run and finish and there could have been further goals had Link and Brennan combined better and both Link and Robinson hitting the side netting whilst well placed.  It was a good comeback considering the start and a boost for the team.

The second half saw an even match but poor defending allowed Liverpool to keep ahead.  James Gunn, 17, played a great match and his solo effort beating 3 Liverpool players before poking home was outstanding.  Robinson crashed home his second & there was also a brilliant 15 meter strike from Luke Foster another 17 year old.

The game was slightly marred by the sending off of Liverpool’s Ray Redmond.  East Coast Captain Brewster Frizzell went in for an overzealous slide tackle which Redmond reacted to by headbutting Frizzel in the face.  After a long fracas and both players suffering cuts Redmond was shown a straight red and Frizzell a yellow for the challenge.

At 5 v 3 East Coast had a glorious chance to get within one but Christlow hit the bar from a yard out and on the counter Liverpool struck the killer blow.

MOM – James Gunn

East Coast now face a 6 week break before the next league action but travel to Dublin on 23rd Jan as well as looking to arrange a couple of friendly fixtures in between games.

All set for big kick off!

East Coast Futsal Club areset for the biggest game in the clubs short history.  On Sunday 21st November the club travel to Middlesbrough to play their first ever national league game.

The clubs first training session took place April 2009 and having already toured Ireland & Italy the team now embark on a new era, in the top division of English Futsal.

It is a fitting match as it was Damon Shaw, Middlesbrough’s Chairmen and Manager who helped pave the way for the club to start and his help was instrumental to the speed in which the team has set up.

It is a fitting first that we play Middlesbrough, the same place we played our first friendly game back in July 2009.

Apart from Josh Christlow, recovering from a chipped bone in his ankle, the team is at full strength and are anticipating a tough match.

The players are looking forward to the challenge this season, with goals being to learn from each team we play and improve as a team and individually as players.

Anyone wanting to travel to watch – Thornaby Pavilion, TS17 9EW 13.30pm kick off – £1 entry

It is great for the club and the local area and really something we can all be proud to be a part of.  The strides the club has made in just over 18 months has been astounding.
