East Coast missed out on their first points of the season in a close game at Greenbank Academy.
If it wasn’t for a lackluster first 5 minutes the young East Coast team would have probably got something out of the game but conceding 3 goals so early on just made the game an uphill battle.
East Coast gave national league debut’s to 3 players, Christlow, Gunn & Robinson, and all 3 impressed.
It was Robinson who scored East Coasts first half goal after 12 minutes, a fine solo run and finish and there could have been further goals had Link and Brennan combined better and both Link and Robinson hitting the side netting whilst well placed. It was a good comeback considering the start and a boost for the team.
The second half saw an even match but poor defending allowed Liverpool to keep ahead. James Gunn, 17, played a great match and his solo effort beating 3 Liverpool players before poking home was outstanding. Robinson crashed home his second & there was also a brilliant 15 meter strike from Luke Foster another 17 year old.
The game was slightly marred by the sending off of Liverpool’s Ray Redmond. East Coast Captain Brewster Frizzell went in for an overzealous slide tackle which Redmond reacted to by headbutting Frizzel in the face. After a long fracas and both players suffering cuts Redmond was shown a straight red and Frizzell a yellow for the challenge.
At 5 v 3 East Coast had a glorious chance to get within one but Christlow hit the bar from a yard out and on the counter Liverpool struck the killer blow.
MOM – James Gunn
East Coast now face a 6 week break before the next league action but travel to Dublin on 23rd Jan as well as looking to arrange a couple of friendly fixtures in between games.
